Natural Acid Reflux Solution Options

Acid reflux is easily treated for most people, but some have a hard time with it and flounder around looking for the answers that work for them. Medications can be prescribed to reduce symptoms, but not everyone wants to take medicines every day; some are looking for an acid reflux solution that is more natural.
There are a number of natural remedies you can try that may work well in reducing symptoms, but as with any type of solution, they should be done with care and with the knowledge of your doctor.
One common natural cure that has been around for years is to put two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it after each meal throughout the day. There is the option of adding some baking soda in with this to help even more if the cider by itself does not seem to be helping much.
There is much anecdotal evidence of success with this method and some people swear this is all they need to do to keep reflux under control. However, it is also worth noting that others report no change in their situation. There has not been any formal research carried out on this remedy so it’s one to use at your own discretion.
Alternatively, if you struggle with the bitterness of apple cider vinegar there are a number of people who have experienced relief from eating slices of apple, particularly Granny Smith and Jonagold varieties.
Another common option that many like to try is to try a change in diet. There are many foods that will make GERD worse, and if they can be avoided, the pain should be less severe. The common items to avoid are foods high in fat, deep fried foods, spicy foods, caffeine of any type, tomato, citrus, and many sugary items, including chocolate. Eliminating or reducing alcohol and sodas will also help as will stopping smoking.
There is also some suggestion that pineapple can help those who suffer from acid reflux, and it can be taken in pill form or it can be taken as a drink. This may or may not help, but it certainly couldn’t hurt to try. It is thought that the digestive enzymes that are plentiful in pineapple aid digestion and can also help the organs in the digestive tract to heal from damage. If drinking the juice does not agree with you, then it can be taken as a tablet commonly called bromelain.
Chicory root is another natural solution. It can be used as a tea, or can be ground and put in many foods. Dosing instructions should be included with purchase.
It is essential that any natural acid reflux solutions you are considering are run past a doctor before beginning. Though drinking pineapple juice or changing your diet might not need medical review, some natural supplements and herbs do. There is the possibility that they can interact with prescriptions with nasty side effects.
These natural acid reflux solution options might not work for everyone, but if you decide to try one, it is best to give them some time to work well. If your doctor suggests that something should not be taken, there may be a very good reason for it, and so you should follow the advice. Always use common sense when dealing with natural remedies as it is often hard to know which will prove helpful and which won’t.

Does eating yogurt help?
Alice - I answered your questions on another post:

Here’s what I said:
Live yogurt contains probiotics - the good bacteria that helps aid digestion. Eating live yogurt can help to ease acid reflux symptoms, however it doesn’t work for everyone.
